About Me

I moved to Colorado in 1998 and immediately fell in love with the state and El Paso County. I am passionate about our county and will work to make it the best it can be. I enjoy the outdoors and am an avid hiker, backpacker, camper, mountain climber, and cross-country skier.

Because I believe strongly in the concept of servant-leadership, I am an active volunteer in organizations that provide service to our community, including my church, Pikes Peak Council of the Boy Scouts of America and the Knights of Columbus. I am an Eagle Scout and have served as a volunteer leader for Cub Scout packs, Boy Scout troops, Explorer posts, and for our local District, including as District Chairman, the highest volunteer position in Scouting.

My wife, Melinda, and I previously lived in Monument, and now live in the Northgate area of Colorado Springs. We have two grown children who both graduated from Lewis-Palmer High School, as well as two young grandchildren.  Our daughter Kristin is a high school math teacher in the DoD Dependents School system in Okinawa, Japan (her husband Peter is a medical corpsman in the US Navy), and our son Stephen is a Lead 3-D Animation Artist working for Apple in Cupertino, CA.

My educational background includes Bachelor of Science degrees in Computer Science and Political Science, as well as a Master of Science Degree in Computer Science, all from Virginia Tech.
I also successfully completed the Executive Leadership Development Program at the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.
